Where else do you get every major Oscar star and fashion’s most powerful names all together on one red carpet? At the Met Gala, of course, and I was there to follow this magic event for you, my little Fashionistas! The Met Gala is often called Fashion’s Oscars, but honestly, I think it’s bigger than that!
This year, fashion’s finest are celebrating Miuccia Prada as well as Elsa Schiaparelli, who together comprise the Costume Institute‘s new exhibition, “Impossible Conversations.” The Fashion World had to wait until 2012 to participate to this chat between the two pioneering figures of Italian fashion design.
The Impossible Conversation takes place via their works inside the Costume Institute of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, where Anna Wintour, Miuccia Prada and Carey Mulligan are welcoming the most glamorous stars on Earth at tonight’s Costume Institute’s annual ball.

This season there’s no limit to the amount of sparkle you can put in your closet: footwear, accessories, and everyday denim are getting a luxurious twist, as seen in Christopher Kane’s collection for J Brand, which is popping with outrageous patterns and crystals. It’s time to take last year’s ordinary cutoffs to the cutting edge!
I adore many aspects of Christopher Kane’s spring collection, including the designer’s fabulous metallic floral prints, but there’s something so creatively unique and fun about the collection’s hand-sewn jewel-embellished shorts… That is exactly why I prepared this DIY tutorial for you with just a handful of ingredients and some simple-to-follow steps.
WHAT YOU NEED:
Worn Cut-Off Shorts
24mm Round Jewels
14mm Round Jewels
30mm Paillette Sequins
White Fabric Paint
Fabric Puffy Paint
Real or Fake Flowers (TALLY-Tip: I used real Spider Mums. If you decide to use real flowers, it’s best to have four or five on hand in case they begin to fall apart from the paint.)
Ruler
Pencil
Start with your favorite pair of jean cutoffs. Use a ruler and a pencil to create a grid pattern: size of grid and spacing depends on your preference (my lines are approx 1/2cm a part).
Use a pencil to draw grid and then trace over with white puffy paint.
Once dry use a real or fake flower to dip in fabric paint to create a stamp.
Stamp the flower shape directly onto shorts in an alternating pattern. I used about 9-10 stamps per each side of short.
Allow to completely dry before wearing.
Here’s the final result: with their statement-making sparkle and contrasting mint green pattern, are completely on-point for a summer filled with music festivals, barbecues, and weekend getaways :)
